After a long period of maternity leave, it may prove difficult to catch up with the backlog or to avoid delays, e.g. in the continuation of a publication list or grant application. In order to provide support during pregnancy and childbirth, EUR provides support in the form of a temporary teaching or research exemption. This applies only to women appointed as an assistant professor or associate professor.

EUR will make € 15,000 available per person, to be used for replacement for teaching or research activities (lectures, study groups, tutorials, research support, etc) of the member of staff in question, resulting in more time for research.

By giving academic staff a temporary teaching or research exemption after their pregnancy leave, Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) puts an emphasis on inclusion and provides the needed support for new mothers to ease back into their career track.
