The UNIC Pop-up CityLab "integration and cultural diversity", which focused on the issue of racism, brought representatives of the Ruhr University Bochum and the city of Bochum, as the two largest employers in Bochum, into exchange. The discussion was about how to deal with racism within both organizations (e.g. with accusations of racism from employees or applicants) but also accusations of racism from their "customers" i.e. students in the case of RUB, citizens in the case of the city. Likewise, the question of prevention of (systematic) racism in the organizations was addressed.

In order to increase the inclusiveness and attractiveness of education and training programmes, the proportion of foreign-language programmes should be increased. Due to the lack of German language skills among migrants, they do not have the same educational opportunities as native German speakers. Foreign-language courses mean that everyone has the opportunity to attend the same courses and thus to gain the same qualifications. In order to provide this, either native language teachers could be employed, the own teachers could be further qualified or a buddy tandem programme could be set up.
