The assembly is hosted by the European Universities Community, a grassroots student initiative that provides students a collective platform to voice their positions on the future of the EU. The assembly is part of the Conference on the Future of Europe and is organized in partnership with the European Parliament, the European Council, and the European Commission. The European Student Assembly provides students of the 41 European University Alliances the opportunity to voice their opinions and influence policy recommendations to EU decision makers.
More than 800 students applied to join and ultimately 260 students were selected to participate in the assembly. The student representatives of Erasmus University Rotterdam, Ruhr University Bochum, University of Deusto, University of Liege, University of Oulu, and University of Zagreb will participate in panel sessions and engage in debates with experts and civil servants on challenging policy topics such as Rule of Law, Democracy, Security, Climate Change, Health, and Education. To ensure that their positions are heard, participants will submit a common position paper to European institutions with their policy recommendations.
In addition to attending the assembly, students will visit the European Parliament and will meet in the Strasbourg University Aula, where the first meeting of the Council of Europe took place in January 1951.
