UNIC Generations' Lab hybrid course

Learn, create, and network while solving real-life cases in UNIC Generations’ Lab in Oulu, Finland!

Be part of a diverse group and get the chance to unleash your creativity and solve real-life challenges through a hybrid 5 ECTS course during 3rd of May to 16th of June, 2022. During the course students will be working in teams to solve cases covering the themes of Green Cities Sustainability, Digital transition, Urban resilience & transformation, Health & wellbeing, Culture, Diversity & Inclusion.


UNIC Generations’ Lab consists of a virtual and physical phase. The physical phase takes part in Oulu, Finland on the 9th to 16th of June 2022. The course is an Erasmus+ funded programme and participants will receive an Erasmus grant to cover travel and accommodation. 


During the virtual phase students are introduced to the case they will be working on and to their teams. The virtual seminars are based on the design thinking methodology and each seminar introduces one stage of the methodology. Besides the seminar students are expected to have weekly group meetings and do independent work. The structure of the virtual part is the following:  

  • Seminar 1: Getting to know the case and teams 3.05.2022
  • Seminar 2: Design thinking through Self Hack 10.05.2022
  • Seminar 3. Designing and Conducting Interviews 17.05.2022
  • Seminar 4: Defining the problem through future thinking techniques 24.05.2022
  • Seminar 5: Ideation through art thinking techniques 31.05.2022


After Seminar 5 the course will continue with the physical phase at the University of Oulu. During the physical part, students will be mostly working on Prototyping their solutions, preparing for the Future Fest Event, and participating in the UNIC CityLabs Festival in Oulu. The structure of the physical part is the following:

  • Seminar 6: Prototyping, Testing, Feedback 9.06.2022
  • Seminar 7: Prototyping, Testing, Feedback 10.06.2022
  • Seminar 8: Communication and presentation 13.06.2022
  • Seminar 9: Finalizing presentations 14.06.2022
  • Seminar 10: Future Fest Event 15.06.2022 during the UNIC Conference
  • UNIC CityLabs Festival 16.06.2022
