"Erasmus University Rotterdam strives to positive impact from education and research, therefore emphasizing collaborations with organizations in Rotterdam that are actively tackling social issues. The university finds great value in participating in existing networks active in the field of newcomers and labor participation, one of the ecosystems that it pursues. That is why the collaboration between Rotterdam Labor Participation Network Newcomers and Erasmus University Rotterdam is established. RANN is an informal network for organizations in Rotterdam and the region that are involved in the labour participation of newcomers with a refugee background. The IDEA Center Outreach programme and Impact at the Core are representatives of EUR, focusing on sharing relevant knowledge, experiences, and contacts. Knowledge broker Andre Hendrikse from Impact at the Core highlights the importance of involving experts with a great deal of practical knowledge in order to incorporate current complex social issues into education at EUR. On Thursday, May 11th, EUR hosted the RANN meeting with the theme ""Newcomers, research and training"". This is the intersection for contacts to be exchanged and previous research results on refugees and newcomers by Rotterdam UAS and EUR to be presented. Paul van de Laar, co-author of the book ""The real Rotterdammer comes from outside"", will share valuable insights when putting current challenges regarding newcomers in Rotterdam in a historical perspective."
